Change Over Time in Writing

In this interactive session, participants will examine a child's progress in writing over a 20-week Descubriendo La Lectura program. Comparing the acceleration in writing to the student's lesson and running records will help to further understand the reciprocity between reading and writing.

Nature of Instructional Support: What Does It Look Like?

"Every interaction...is a teaching move...carefully determined and astutely delivered with a target that involves learning how to do something...and prepares for future independent use." (Clay 2001, pp. 31). Are you creating shifts each day in each part of the lesson? Through videotaped lessons, this session will explore the theory of contingent support for learning and give you tools to judge the effectiveness of your interactions and how to look for opportunities within and across lessons to create shifts.
